Adobe® Acrobat® and the PDF format have long been the industry standard for sharing print quality documents on the web. With the advent of Acrobat® Reader™ 5.0 you can now experience interactive, self calculating documents. Adobe 5.0 is required. If you don't have the free Acrobat Reader 5.0, or if you have an earlier version of the reader, update or get the free Acrobat Reader 5.0 here. If you want to find out if you have the correct version, look on the Acrobat Reader toolbar under "help" > "about Adobe Acrobat Reader", or try our demonstration form here. If you can't see the form, or if you get an error message (can not decrypt) you will need to update.
When you have the correct version of Acrobat Reader, you’re ready to get a username and password to the Tax Prep Center. Simply fill out the form and click on the "to secure server" button and enter your payment information. You will then be issued your username and password. Make sure to WRITE your username and password down! You'll need it to return to the Tax Prep Centers.
In order to prepare your IRS Federal amended tax return online, you will need your original tax return information and the information on what you need to amend. Although e-file of form 1040x is not available from the IRS at this time, this still takes less time than doing it by hand and starts at only $9.95.
